Most approaches look at the individual; the systemic approach looks at the system the individual lives in, above all the family and the partner relationship. It asks not only "what is happening inside you" but "what is happening between you": who keeps quiet about what, which roles were assigned without ever being agreed, which patterns repeat across generations. One member's symptom is often a sign that the whole system is stuck somewhere, which is why a change in relationships can unblock what individual work keeps circling around.
